Amr Zaki made his comeback from injury but Wigan Athletic slumped to a 1-0 away defeat to Arsenal in the Premiership on Saturday.

Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor scored the winner in the 16th minute after capitalizing on some sloppy defending.

He was found unmarked by a Cesc Fabregas pass before slotting home a low effort.

Wigan, whose five-game unbeaten run came to an end at the hands of Arsenal, are 11th in the league table with 19 points, four above the relegation zone.

Zaki, who missed three league games due to a hamstring injury, was introduced in the second half.

The Egypt striker replaced Senegal’s Henri Camara six minutes past the hour mark.

He could have scored the equalizer ten minutes after his introduction when he was fed by Mario Melchiot’s deft pass on the left hand side of the box.

Zaki, who scored eight league goals so far, cut inside and hit a low shot that went just wide of the post.

The 25-year-old had another chance shortly after when he outran Gael Clichy inside the box.

But under pressure from the French left-back, Zaki’s shot flew high over.
