Bayern Munich winger Bastian Schweinsteiger ended speculation surrounding his future by signing a new contract extension with the Bavarian giants.

The German international was going to be out of contract in the summer, and several European top sides including Juventus were leading a race to lure him away from Allianz Arena.

Juve chief Giovani Gigli has earlier revealed that the Italian outfit were planning to hold talks with the player’s representatives, but the negotiations were halted due to the player’s girlfriend’s unwillingness to move to Turin.

However, German sports agency SID confirmed that the 24-year-old has penned a three-year contract with Bayern on Wednesday.

Schweinsteiger kicked off his career through the Bayern youth ranks, before becoming a club and Germany regular over the last few seasons.

The versatile midfielder already scored 18 times in 167 games for Bayern, and has a total of 62 caps and 17 international goals for his country.
