Manchester United contingent in Japan

Tokyo - Mohamed Sabe

European champions Manchester United have arrived in Japan on Monday, three days ahead of their FIFA Club World Cup match against Gamba Osaka.

Alex Ferguson's men are set to take part in their first training session in Yokohama several hours after their arrival.

A myriad of reporters and media men are expected to attend the training of the English powerhouse, who are perceived to be the frontrunners for the elite competition title.

The Premier League side are kicking off their World Cup campaign starting the Semi-Final Round on Thursday against Asian Champions Osaka, who set up the meeting after beating Adelaide United 1-0.

Crowded Schedule

The European giants' schedule is distinctly crowded, with so many commitments on all fronts.

However, international striker Wayne Rooney shrugged off the pressure of his team's successive fixtures.

"Manchester are well-prepared. It's almost mid-season and we are in the best form possible," the England hitman said before setting off on Japan trip.

"We didn't participate in that tournament before, and thus it would be an exciting ride.

"We hope to claim the title."

The 23-year-old crowd pleaser referred that the Red Devils are keen to put on riveting displays to entertain the Japanese football fans.

He also pointed out that his team's pre-season tour in the prominent Asian country was memorable.

"Our Japan trip was magnificent, therefore we want to reward those fans, who always celebrate our triumphs," he said.
