Ahli under-fire keeper Amir Abdul-Hamid maintained his defiance against continuous criticism, confirming that he is and will remain the Red Devil's first choice keeper.

Abdul-Hamid received heavy criticism from fans and media alike, after many blamed him for the loss against Pachuca in the Club World Cup first round.

After securing a two-goal lead in the first half, Ahli ended the game in a 4-2 extra-time defeat. Abdul-Hamid was found guilty by many fans for conceding Pachuca's second goal, which set the Mexican club on course for the win.

"People can say what they want. I'm Ahli's first choice keeper and will remain in my position no matter what the media say," Abdul-Hamid told FiGoal.com.

"I've got all my teammates' and the coaching staff's support, and I won't be affected by what's said or written in the media."

After years of living in the shadows of Essam Al-Hadari, Abdul-Hamid became Ahli's first guardian following the former's departure to FC Sion in Switzerland.

However, and despite winning a number of trophies as a club regular, the 29-year-old is yet to prove himself as Hadari's perfect successor.

"I played regularly for the club over the last ten months, during which we won the Egyptian league and Super Cup and the CAF Champions League.

"I totally respect the media, but I've proved my worth for the club and the criticism should be objective."

Abdul-Hamid will be guarding Ahli's net, when the Cairo giants take on Adelaide United in the Club World Cup fifth/sixth place game on Thursday.
