The Italian international, who is having a rest after undergoing a knee operation, believes that staying at San Siro was the right decision for his career.

"I was close to Bayern, but I am happy that I remained with Milan," the 30-year-old told Italian Media.

"That was the right decision to make because it is still an honor for me to wear the Rossoneri colors."

Gattuso had an unpleasant spell with Carlo Ancelotti's men last season, even so, vice-president Adriano Galliani talked him into staying.

"He convinced me to stay. I’ve been made to feel important again in this team and that’s why I’m confident I made the correct choice," said the former Salernitana player.
