The Spanish club's apparent financial crisis led to increased speculation that they could offload some of their stars, including influential duo Villa and Silva.

Manchester City, who are financially backed by Abu Dhabi United Group, are targeting a striker and reports suggested they would bid for Spain frontman Villa.

"Whatever offer comes in we will have to study it although the idea is not to have to sell David Villa or David Silva," Gomez was quoted as saying by The Independent.

"It would have to be an exorbitant offer."

Villa and talented winger Silva played a pivotal role in Spain's EURO 2008 triumph to attract a host of suitors.
