Real Madrid winger Arjen Robben said that his goal against Villarreal on Sunday was his best strike since joining Los Merengues.

The Dutchman's curled effort from outside the box was enough to hand Real the home win, and Robben couldn’t have sounded any happier after the game.

"I think this is the most beautiful goal I scored for the club so far, but what's more important is that it enabled us to win the game," Robben said after the game.

The 25-year-old added that he was very pleased with the game's overall outcome for Real.

"The most important thing is that we avoided anymore injuries and we defended well and didn’t concede any goals.

"Now we must start improving our attack to score more goals and give the team more confidence."

Huntelaar debut

The Villareal win saw winter signing Klaas Jan Huntelaar make his debut for Real, and Robben stressed that the former Ajax striker needs more time to adapt to the Spanish surroundings.

"Huntelaar is a great player, but he has gone for five weeks without playing and it was a difficult game for him," he said.

"This was his first match and he was a bit unlucky not to score, although he had his chances. But I’m sure he will score lots of goals for Madrid in the future."

Despite the win, Real Madrid are still lying third in La Liga table with 32 points, 12 adrift of leaders Barcelona.
