Gerets is hopeful to seal a six-month loan deal for the 37-year-old hitman, who finished the season in Sweden with Helsingborg.

"I hope things will come to fruition in the hours or the days ahead - yes, with Larsson it's possible," the Belgian coach told reporters on Monday.

Larsson had a similar stint with Manchester United at the start of 2007, where he spent three successful month with the Premiership titans.

The talismanic striker, who has more than 100 caps for Sweden, was part of the team's squad in last year's EURO 2008.
