“Jermain Defoe makes his return to White Harte Lane tonight - and will be presented to fans before the Carling Cup semi-final with Burnley,” a statement read on the club’s website.

Neither club mentioned how much Defoe will be heading to Spurs for, but it is believed that the deal was sealed for around £15 million.

Defoe will be reunited with manager Harry Redknapp, whom he played under at West Ham United and Portsmouth previously.

The 27-year-old hit man already scored 64 times in 177 games for Tottenham, when he played for the club between 2004 and 2008.
