Inter Milan moved three points clear at the top of the Serie after Adriano's first-half goal gave them a 1-0 home victory over Sampdoria on Sunday.

The Brazilian striker scored what proved to be the winning goal just before the halftime whistle.

He connected with Maicon's pinpoint cross at the far post to volley in from close range.

Few minutes earlier, Inter boss Jose Mourinho was sent off for dissent after protesting against the referee's decision to book Dejan Stankovic.

Inter, without suspended striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, labored to a victory over a Sampdoria side that missed Antonio Cassano through injury.

The Nerazzurri, who are looking to win a fourth consecutive Serie A title, are on top of the table with 46 points.

Juventus are second on 43 points, three ahead of third-placed AC Milan, who brushed aside Bologna 4-1 earlier on Sunday.
