Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brilliant free-kick to guide Manchester United to a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

United broke the deadlock on 23 minutes through Wayne Rooney before Roque Santa Cruz equalized for Blackburn later in the first-half.

In the 59th minute, Portuguese international Ronaldo made sure United stayed on top of the Premiership table with a wicked free-kick that went past Paul Robinson.

Sir Alex Ferguson's men started the game brightly, and following a couple of attempts through Ronaldo and Patrice Evra, it seemed a matter of time before they took the lead.

The hosts transformed their superiority into a goal when Ryan Nelsen couldn’t clear Nani's cross. The Kiwi defender's flick found Wayne, who scored from close range.

United slowed their pace after the goal and Blackburn took advantage when Santa Cruz was released by Andre Oijer. The Paraguayan rounded Tomas Kuszczak before slotting home.

In the second half, Rovers looked more threatening, as United failed to penetrate the visitors' defence.

Sam Allardyce's team could have scored a second when Morten Gamst Pedersen hit the post. Moments later, El-Hadji Diouf saw his effort blocked by Kuszczak.

However, it was United who restored their lead against the run of play. A left-sided free-kick was taken by Ronaldo, and the influential winger didn’t disappoint.
