Bayern Munich have all but qualified for the UEFA Champions League quarter-final after Frank Ribery inspired them to an impressive 5-0 away victory over Sporting Lisbon.

The lively winger put in an outstanding display to make sure Sporting would have to spring a huge surprise in the second-leg if they are to book a last-eight berth.

He scored two goals and created other two for Luca Toni. Miroslav Klose was also on the scoresheet as Bayern had a night to remember.

French international Ribery opened the scoring three minutes before the break after a superb individual effort.

He gathered a poor back pass from Derlei, skipped past two defenders on his way to the penalty area before slotting the ball through the legs of goalkeeper Tiago.

Miroslav Klose doubled Bayern's lead in the 57th minute when Massimo Oddo's right-wing cross accidentally struck his body at the far post and went into the net.

Ribery extended the gap six minutes later when he converted a penalty after Fabio Rochemback fouled Philipp Lahm inside the area.

Toni added the fourth six minutes from time with a superb header after being set-up by a neat cross from Ribery.

The Italian striker completed the rout in stoppage time with a close-range effort, with Ribery being also the architect.
