Zamalek's elections were earlier scheduled for next July, but the Egyptian Supreme Court's decision on Wednesday allowed the Cairo club to determine an earlier timing for the elections.

"I still don’t know who'll be running for presidency or board membership, but I'll enlist my name as a candidate for a place in the new board," Refaat told FilGoal.com.

"We need to have a former footballer in the new board; otherwise the club will suffer the same fate we endured over the last few years."

The White Knights have long suffered from administrative instability that hugely affected their run in local and continental competitions.

Zamalek have last won the Egyptian Premier League title in 2004. Their sole triumph since then came when they lifted the Egyptian Cup in 2008.
