Zamalek are enduring one of their worst runs in history, having suffered nine Egyptian Premier League defeats so far this season.

The 11-time Egyptian champions, who have never been relegated to the second division, lie ninth in the 16-team table on 27 points, just seven above the drop zone.

But Bassiouni, who scored Hodoud's second goal in their 2-1 victory over Zamalek on Saturday, says the White Knights are on the right track.

"Zamalek's young players are very good but they just need time to gain experience," Bassiouni told Modern Sport after the match.

"They will only get better in the future. I wish Zamalek the best of luck."

The 37-year-old, who earned applause from Zamalek fans after being substituted in Saturday's game, enjoyed a highly successful tenure with the Cairo giants.

Bassiouni won the Egyptian league, Cup and the African Cup Winners' Cup with Zamalek from 1997 till 2001 before moving to Ismaili where he won another league trophy.
