Chelsea players Frank Lampard and John Terry are convinced that installing Alan Shearer as Newcastle's new manager can turn around the Toon Army's fortunes this season.

Shearer, who accepted his first managerial job to be Newcastle's fourth coach this term, will be facing Chelsea on Saturday in his first game in charge of The Magpies.

"Now the game will definitely be a lot harder," Lampard told Sky Sports when asked about the impact Shearer can have on the clash.

"You can imagine the atmosphere up there. Alan Shearer is a God, and quite rightly so. He will get the fans going and the players going."

Newcastle-born Shearer is already a living legend at St. James' Park, after the ex- England skipper scored 148 goals in 303 games for the club between 1996 and 2006.

"We have to react to the atmosphere and be on top of our game to get a result," added Lampard.

Chelsea defender Terry echoed Lampard's statements that Shearer's massive status at Newcastle will be a great morale boost for both Geordie players and fans alike.

"He is Newcastle isn't he," Terry said. "So it will give them a big lift. It is down to us to go there.

Shearer's tough task will be saving Newcastle from relegation, as the club are struggling in 18th position in the Premiership table with eight games to go.
