Stuttgart goalie Jens Lehmann has penned a one-year contract extension that will see him ply his trade at the German side till 2010.

The veteran keeper was set to leave the Bundesliga club at the end of the season upon the expiry of his previous contact, but now he will turn 40 while still in action.

"VfB (Stuttgart) are a well-run club with great fans and a positive environment," former Arsenal and Germany guardian Lehmann told the club's official website.

"I enjoy playing here. I am looking forward to next season, but for now we are concentrating on finishing the present campaign as successfully as possible."

Stuttgart stand-in boss Markus Babbel dished out praise for Lehmann, saying he's still competent to stand between the sticks.

"For me he is still one of the best goalkeepers in the game with his professionalism, his reputation and his charisma. I am delighted he is staying on," he said.
