A blunder by Masri's substitute keeper Haitham Mohamed gifted Harras Hodoud a last-gasp 1-0 victory in the Egyptian Premier League on Thursday.

Mohamed, who replaced the injured George Owu six minutes before the break, failed to handle a tame Ahmed Eid shot in stoppage time to give Hodoud all three points.

The victory maintained Hodoud's hopes of earning a historic Champions League qualification.

The Egyptian Cup winners lie fifth in the league table with 42 points, six behind second-placed Ismaili, who played a game more.

The military side must finish as runners-up in order to accompany the league winners to the elite Champions League.

They will participate in the Confederation Cup if they fail to leapfrog Ismaili into second spot.

Wasted Chances

Masri were made to pay for wasting a host of goalscoring chances during the game.

Hodoud enjoy the best defensive record in the league so far but their defense was exposed on several occasions against Masri.

Masri strikers Mohamed Al-Gabbas and Razak Pimpong twice went one-on-one with the keeper in the first half but blasted their efforts wide.

Hodoud's Cameroonian keeper Mathurin Kameni palmed a powerful shot by Pimpong from inside the area shortly after.

Masri's best chance fell to Al-Gabbas ten minutes from time.

The 21-year-old, who is the team's top scorer with nine goals, got the better of defender Ahmed Saied and went clear on goal but his shot struck the woodwork.

Forward Eid handed Hodoud a precious victory in the additional time when his shot from the edge of the area squirmed out of Mohamed's grasp and found its way into the net.
