The Rossoneri confirmed in a press release on Tuesday that they have accepted Emerson's request to terminate the contract by mutual consent.

"In thanking him for all he has done during this experience with the Rossoneri, Milan wish Emerson the best for the future," Milan's statement read.

Emerson moved to San Siro in 2007, after a long European journey that included playing for Bayer Leverkusen, AS Roma, Juventus and Real Madrid.

However, the 34-year-old never got his career going at Milan, as he only made 26 Serie A appearances – mostly as a substitute – in nearly two seasons.
