Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger admitted he did not expect that Andrei Arshavin would become that good in front of goal.

The Russian playmaker, who joined Arsenal in January, notched four goals as the Gunners held title contenders Liverpool to a thrilling 4-4 Premier League draw on Tuesday.

"I have been in this job a long time and not many players get four goals in a top game like that," Wenger told Arsenal's official website.

"I didn't expect him to do that - he has scored seven in seven games."

Arshavin, who played on the left side of Arsenal's four-man midfield, tormented Liverpool's shaky defense and ghosted behind his markers on numerous occasions to stun the Anfield crowd.

"He can play everywhere, like all great players," French tactician Wenger added.

"He has tricks and a short back-lift and that makes him very dangerous. It shows he has a good left foot, but in full confidence he can be relaxed enough to take the goal anyway."
