Ismaili face Zamalek in crucial tie

Ismaili coach Ricardo Ferreira believes an alleged leniency from Zamalek will do his side no favor because Ahli remain in the driving seat to win the Egyptian Premier League.

Rumors suggested that Zamalek would not play at full-strength against Ismaili in order to deny arch-rivals Ahli from moving a step closer to retaining their league title.

"Ahli have destiny in their own hands, so if Zamalek did not take their match against Ismaili seriously nothing will change," Ricardo told reporters on Sunday.

"Ahli will be crowned champions if they win their remaining four matches.

"Such talks (about Zamalek leniency) usually come up when two competing teams have the same number of games remaining, but the fact is that Ahli have a game in hand over Ismaili."

Ismaili, who have three matches remaining, lie on top of the league table on 54 points, one ahead of Ahli, who are aiming to wrap up a fifth consecutive title.

The Dervishes have no alternative but to win their games if they are to stay in the hunt for a fourth league triumph in their history.

They next face Zamalek, the club whom they enjoy a good relationship with, on Tuesday.

"We don't need our opponents to be lenient, we can beat them anyway," Ricardo added.

Many Zamalek fans said on internet message boards and TV channels that they hoped Ismaili would win the tie.

They also chanted 'the Dervishes will be champions' during Zamalek's goalless draw with Ahli in Thursday's Cairo derby.
