Mido had chances in the first half

Mido and Amr Zaki couldn't help Wigan Athletic beat Bolton Wanderers in a goalless Premiership draw on Saturday at JJB.

The draw dashed Wigan's hope of securing a Europa League spot next season as they slipped to 11th place with 42 points. Bolton are 12th with 39.

Contrary to pre-match reports, Wigan boss Steve Bruce kept Zaki on the bench as Mido partnered Hugo Rodallega upfront.

Jaaskelainen Heroics

Despite witnessing little action for long spells, the first half started and ended hectically, with Bolton guardian Jussi Jaaskelainen performing heroics for the visitors.

The Finnish brilliantly denied Rodallega on two occasions inside the opening 14 minutes, even though he was helped by the post in the first one.

However, Jaaskelainen's save of the day came one minute from the break, when fully stretched to parry away Mido's magnificent curling effort from 30 yards.

The Egyptian came close to scoring a beauty in injury time, but his clever backheel was blocked by the vigilant Bolton keeper.

Zaki for Mido

The second half was not as eventful as the first one with no real chances at both ends.

There were no signs for top scorer Zaki until the 75th minute, when he replaced compatriot Mido.

The Bulldozer didn't have enough time to end his goal drought though, as he has yet to score since last year's spot kick against Wanderers at Reebok Stadium.
