Bayern Munich became the Bundesliga joint leaders after beating Energie Cottbus 3-1 on Sunday to capitalize on Wolfsburg's 4-1 defeat at Stuttgart.

With three games remaining, Bayern and Wolfsburg are now level on 60 points, with the latter ahead of the Bavarians on goal difference.

In Cottbus, Argentine midfielder Jose Ernesto Sosa put Bayern in front in the 23rd minute before Serbian forward Ivica Iliev equalised for the home side.

Bayern registered a two-goal lead by scoring twice in four minutes through Martin Demichelis and Germany hitman Lukas Podolski.

French ace Franck Ribery wasted a 90th minute penalty-kick for the visitors.

At the Merecedez Benz Arena, Wolfsburg's title hopes received a massive blow after they were thrashed 4-1 by Stuttgart.

Mario Gomez was the hero of the day for Stuttgart, as the Spanish-born player scored four times for Markus Babbel's side on 1, 20, 63 and 77 minutes.

Edin Dzeko scored Felix Magath's team only goal of the game in the 36th minute.

Stuttgart's win leaves the door ajar for this season's Bundesliga title, as Die Roten are now in fourth spot, two points behind Bayern and Wolfsburg.

Hertha Berlin are third with 59 points after their home win over Bochum.
