Real Madrid guardian Iker Casillas implied that the Spanish giants should end their dogged interest in the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka.

Real have been in pursuit of the world class duo since last season, and the prospected arrival of president Florentino Perez fueled the speculation further.

But Casillas believes that Los Merengues are in no need of a €100million buy in order to vie with highflying Primera Liga leaders Barcelona next season.

"Ronaldo and Kaka are great players but we don't have to keep returning to these names," the Spain number one told reporters on Tuesday.

"What we need is a team that can compete with Barcelona and one player doesn't change a team. I believe a team always forms together and there cannot be a player that changes everything.

"If we pay €100million for Ronaldo it's because he's worth it. But with the economic crisis it is peculiar that in football we talk of these astronomical figures."

In the same manner, Casillas urged his club to put their faith in home-based players like himself.

"The Spanish national team are great and my team-mates at international level are fantastic, that is clear," he said.

"I have always believed in the Spanish player and right now they are playing great football."
