Ancelotti's future hangs by a thread as Milan are on course to finish a second successive season empty-handed.
The Rossoneri chairman Silvio Berlusconi was quoted on Tuesday as saying that Ancelotti's mistakes were the reason behind his side's failure to mount a serious challenge for the Serie A title.
Combative midfielder Gattuso, who recently recovered from a serious knee injury, believes Ancelotti should not shoulder the blame for the disappointing season.
"What I know is that Ancelotti is well seen, he wants to stay and we want him to stay," he told Milan's official website.
"What the president says is the law, no one can say anything, but our season has been conditioned by the many injuries that involved important players for us."
Ancelotti, 49, has been in charge of Milan since 2001.
He led them to one Serie A title, one Italian Cup and two Champions League triumphs.
