Wolfsburg was arguably the happiest city in Germany at the weekend after the Wolves wrapped up their first-ever Bundesliga title on Saturday.

Felix Magath's team rout Werder Bremen 5-1 to clinch the title, beating last season's champions Bayern Munich by just two points.

"It is a dream come true. Before the season started I never thought we had a chance to win the championship," said Magath, who is leaving for Schalke.

"But I knew we had a good team and we played well and deserved the title. It is hard to be leaving now, obviously."

Meanwhile, the Bundesliga champions are set to announce Armin Veh as new coach this week.

Grafite and Dzeko

Wolfsburg strike partners Grafite and Edin Dzeko inspired the historic feat by scoring 54 goals among them this term.

The duo smashed Bayern's previous record of 53 goals between Gerd Muller and Uli Hoeness in the 70s.

"People laughed at me then (when I said I wanted to win the title)," said Brazilian hitman Grafite, who finished top scorer with 28 goals.

"But the entire project in Wolfsburg was from the start aimed at success.

"I didn't know Dzeko then and I didn't know much about the club, but after the first talks in the club I was sure that I could achieve something here."

Bosnia striker Dzeko, who scored 26 goals, wasn’t less jubilant than his mate.

"It is just insane. It is great feeling to be German champions," he said.

"I did not think it was possible to win it in only my second year in Germany. We are going to do a lot of celebrating."
