Real Madrid veteran Fabio Cannavaro was overwhelmed when his team's fans chanted his name during Sunday's 1-3 home loss to Mallorca.

The experienced defender is rejoining Juventus in the summer on a one-year deal, and Los Merengues' spectators were obviously touched by his imminent departure.

Cannavaro expressed his gratitude for the standing ovation he had received, describing his spell at Real as 'fantastic'.

"I have had three fantastic seasons, it has been an incredible experience winning two leagues and being in the Real Madrid dressing room," the 35-year-old international said.

"I have always tried to be professional and give everything, I think the fans appreciate that and it was amazing to hear them chanting my name at the end."

The center-back joined Real from Juventus in 2006, and helped the Spanish giants win back-to-back league titles.

However, he had a less impressive run this season after the capital side succumbed to many losses on all fronts to finish the term empty-handed.

Lowest Point

Cannavaro wishes he had ended his Primera Liga adventure without the last several defeats.

"It was sad to finish my time at the club losing but after the defeat by Barcelona it has been very difficult for us to bounce back," he said

"The loss to Barcelona has definitely been the lowest point of my time here."

The Naples-born player started his professional career at Napoli.

After spending three seasons at his hometown club, Cannavaro sealed a move to Parma in 1995.

In 2002, he joined Inter Milan and moved to Juventus two seasons later.

The most prestigious personal accolade he claimed was the 2006 FIFA Player of the Year award.
