Gomez found the net at last

Germany striker Mario Gomez was delighted to end his prolonged goal-drought with the Mannschaft, following an emphatic quintuple in the 7-2 drubbing of UAE.

The new Bayern boy, nicknamed Super Mario, scored his first international goal since March 2008 on Tuesday in Dubai.

"A huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. This was not a tough opponent but I am just happy that the curse is now gone," said Gomez after the friendly.

Gomez was lambasted in his homeland following a dismal EURO 2008 campaign, where he was guilty of missing a number of easy chances.

Despite being regularly picked by coach Joachim Low, Gomez also failed to find the net in Germany's recent World Cup qualifiers.

The 23-year-old left Stuttgart for Bayern last week in a deal reported be around €30million.
