How to lose to Brazil

Egypt don't have a snowball's chance in hell of beating Brazil in the FIFA Confederations Cup, but what can be hoped for is a praiseworthy display against the imposing Selecao.

The Pharaohs are clashing with the five-time world champions shortly after their two consecutive disappointments in the 2010 World Cup qualifying stage.

Upon claiming the 2008 African Cup of Nations title, Egypt's prospects of securing a berth in the quadrennial competition seemed to be very bright.

But a demoralizing 1-1 home draw with Zambia and a staggering 3-1 loss in Algeria disillusioned the Egyptian players and fans alike.

Egypt notably lacked the necessary fluency and cutting-edge during both games, and now they may well miss out on the World Cup.

A victory in these days would definitely help the Egyptians get their act together ahead of their remaining four qualifiers, but that is unlikely to happen any time soon.

With their morale damaged and qualification hopes dented, Hassan Shehata's men are to compete with world heavyweights on another front, where more losses are inevitable for them.

Egypt are far from being in contention for the Confederations Cup trophy, and the possibility of registering a win over any of their Group B rivals is too far-fetched.

In the best-case scenario, the African champions won't get severe drubbings at the hands of Brazil and Italy, and will salvage a draw with USA.

But not only victories can be morale-boosters.

Egypt need to put up a fight in the global competition if they are to rediscover their peak form and regain self-esteem.

Against Brazil, they have to show combative spirit and put in a memorable performance in order to start revitalizing and earn respect once again.

In all cases, the Samba Dancers are going to cruise to an easy victory, but Egypt will take some credit if they lose with dignity.
