After losing with dignity to Brazil in their previous match, Egypt have once again proved they are up to the World heavyweights' standards by beating Italy 1-0.

It was by all means a deserved win over the world champions, who have absolutely no justification for their loss except that they were tactically and physically bested by Hassan Shehata's men.

The Azzurri, who were in good form and almost had no missing key figures, took the match quite seriously and were obviously eager to pull off a win.

A host of world-class stars such as Andrea Pirlo, Luca Toni and Vincenzo Iaquinta were all struggling throughout the second half to restore parity, but the determined Egyptians rose to the occasion.

Egypt's performance was astoundingly magnificent, but what mesmerized me the most was their post-goal approach.

Unlike what's typical of the Egyptian national team, they were fearlessly seeking to double their slender lead after scoring what eventually turned out to be the winner.

They were simply unfazed by their intimidating opposition, and were totally convinced of their capability to register a well-earned win.

Such a mentality is what could take Egypt to a whole new level.

Egypt's inconsistency is mainly down to psychological barriers. For instance, they occasionally suffer a dip in form against European big guns and during crucial away matches.

Their notorious 3-1 loss to Algeria in the World Cup qualifying stage was the last demonstration of how unsteady Egypt's nerves can be as a result of emotional burdens.

They failed at the time to keep a grip on themselves and cracked under the immense pressure of the home side fans, although their opponents were a lowly team.

But after defeating four-time world champions Italy in a competitive encounter, the Egyptians should not stumble for such reasons ever again, even in the fiercest matches.

This victory over Marcello Lippi's team is an undeniable testament to Egypt's credentials as a global powerhouse, and now they have to act accordingly.

The African giants have to preserve the frame of mind that saw them defeat one of the strongest teams on earth, thence Egypt's best-ever era shall begin.

Egypt's lackluster displays in their last two World Cup qualifiers made me believe they had no hope at all in the Confederations Cup; I'm really glad I was mistaken.
