Mohamed Hommos, Egypt's hero in Thursday's 1-0 victory over world champions Italy in the Confederations Cup, believes the hardest challenge is yet to come.

The Pharaohs, who became level on three points with Italy, take on the United States in their last Group B game on Sunday.

A win over the Americans, who have no points, will see Egypt progress to the semi-final if Italy fail to beat Brazil, who secured a maximum six points from their two matches.

"Our match against the US will be the toughest one," Hommos told FilGoal.com, echoing comments made by classy playmaker Mohamed Abou-Treika on Thursday.

"Our opponents have virtually lost hopes of reaching the next round, so it won't be easy to face a team who have nothing to lose."

Ismaili skipper Hommos might play a bigger role with Egypt in the upcoming matches after producing a superb display against Italy.

He was given a rare starting berth at the expense of Egypt captain Ahmed Hassan, and he repaid coach Hassan Shehata's faith by scoring the winner, his first ever goal with the national team.

The 30-year-old rose unmarked to head home Abou-Treika's inswinging corner five minutes before the break.
