Real Madrid are intending to set a €1billion minimum fee release clause for potential signing Cristiano Ronaldo, daily Marca reported.

Ronaldo's €96million record move from Manchester United is in progress, but Los Merengues want to make sure the Portuguese stays at the Bernabeu for long.

Marca claimed that Florentino Perez set the lofty clause so as to keep Ronaldo away from the temptations of free-spending Arab sheikhs.

Manchester City's Arab owners have been eager to break the bank since taking charge of the Premiership club last year.

Rest

Meanwhile, Ronaldo is looking forward to make use of the summer break, before embarking on the new season with Real.

"As I've already said in every interview, Real Madrid is the club in which I've always wanted to play," said the 2008 FIFA Player of the Year.

"It will be good to play with Kaka, a player who was the Ballon d'Or, the best in the world, but also with Raul, (Iker) Casillas and Guti.

"If I'm allowed, now I want to rest, because the negotiations are still not concluded. I want to start pre-season well, that's what I really want.

"I still don't have a house in Madrid, but I'll set aside time to look. I also want to learn Spanish, but this is the time to rest, to be with my family, so I can then start strongly and give the best of me."
