Masri chairman Ali Faragallah announced that his club are close to signing controversial defender Ibrahim Saied.

"I personally spoke to Saied, and asked him to join Masri in order for him to get back in Egypt fold," Faragallah revealed.

"He has initially agreed on the offer, and we should meet again on Saturday to wrap up the deal."

Ironically, Saied said beforehand that Ahli and Zamalek are the only teams he could play for in Egypt.

"I can't play for any club other than Ahli or Zamalek. Joining Ahli seems a distant possibility so if I couldn't join Zamalek I will move abroad," Saied said last month.

The 29-year-old has become a free agent since he terminated his contract with Ismaili last season, following several falling-outs with the club's officials.

Afterwards, Saied claimed that Argentine giants Boca Juniors were targeting him, before stating that Portuguese club Vitoria Setubal made him an offer.

His alleged suitors took no tangible actions to land him though.

Disputes

The talented footballer started his career at Ahli in 2000 and earned plaudits for a string of impressive displays, but his tendency to make troubles blighted his spell.

After causing all kinds of troubles for the Red Devils, Saied joined their arch-rivals Zamalek where he got involved in more disputes.

He also played for Turkey's Rizespor and Ankaragucu, and had a brief and unsuccessful stint with English side Everton in 2003.
