Mainz coach Jorn Andersen expressed his optimism at signing Egyptian striker Gamal Hamza.

German newspaper Bild claimed that despite Hamza's proved skills with Zamalek and Egypt, the player's indiscipline can hinder his progress with Mainz.

However, Andersen sounded unfazed by such reports, confirming that the 27-year-old will be a good addition to his squad.

"Hamza is a very talented and smart player. I really enjoyed watching him make his debut for the team," the Norwegian coach told Bild.

"He (Hamza) knows that playing in Europe is different than in Egypt, and that he'll have to show more professionalism and commitment in order to succeed in Germany."

Bild also pointed out that Hamza looked exhausted during his first training session with the club.

"I expect trainings to be very tough here in the Bundesliga," Hamza responded.

Hamza joined Mainz on a two-year deal after his contract with Zamalek expired last month.

The former Egypt under 21 star scored on his first appearance for the club in the 10-1 pre-season friendly win over VFB Bodenheim.
