Ronaldo became the world's most expensive player after Real lured him from United for £80 million, and the Portuguese will not miss the Premiership's hard tackles.

"In England, there are some teams who know they can't compete with you on a football level, so they just kick you," Ronaldo was quoted as saying by the Times.

"It's frustrating and something needs to be done to protect the skilful players because one day someone will get seriously hurt.

"I think more could be done to protect us but that is up to the referees to decide," he added.

Ferguson Tribute

The 2008 world player of the year added that he owes a lot of what he achived over the last few years to working under Red Devils' boss Sir Alex Fergsuon.

"Ferguson made me aware that I would be one of the best players in the world, he gave me that belief," the 24-year-old said.

"I can never repay the confidence he has shown in me over the years."

"I was a boy when I arrived at Manchester and now I'm leaving a man. This club and its fans will always have a place in my heart."

During his time at Old Trafford, Ronaldo helped the club win three Premiership titles, one FA Cup, two League Cups and a UEFA Champions League trophy.
