Liverpool will make an offer for Inter Milan midfielder Esteban Cambiasso if either Xabi Alonso or Javier Mascherano moves away from Merseyside, according to Sky Sports.

Reds manager Rafael Benitez has every intention of holding onto the influential duo, who are widely tipped to move to Spain this summer.

Big spenders Real Madrid, Who have already signed Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema in the close season, are in the hunt for talented schemer Alonso.

On the other hand, European champions Barcelona are understood to be a possible destination for Argentine ace Mascherano.

Reportedly, Benitez will be seeking to land Cambiasso in case one of his midfield pair leaves.

Liverpool have been fiercely vying for the Premier League title last season, and the Spanish tactician is eager to keep all the key players at his disposal for next term.

Benitez is said to be a big fan of Cambiasso, therefore he could approach him before the closure of the transfer window.

The 28-year-old international has been a regular at Inter since his arrival at San Siro from Real in 2004, and thus head coach Jose Mourinho would most probably object to his departure.
