Mainz striker Gamal Hamza has sustained a minor knee problem, and missed his side's 3-0 win over Eintracht Trier as a result, according to German reports.

The former Zamalek star, who scored on his debut with the German minnows against Budenheim last month, was expected to feature in Sunday's game, but he was kept on the sidelines.

Rhein Zeitung reported Hamza is suffering a knee tendon inflammation, and thus took no part in the game.

The 28-year-old moved to the Bundesliga side this summer on a two-year contract, after his deal with Zamalek expired.

Hamza is the second Egyptian player to join Mainz, as Mohamed Zidan had a fruitful loan spell at Stadion am Bruchweg in 2007.
