Manchester City have signed Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor on a five-year contract from Arsenal for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old passed medical tests at Eastlands earlier on Saturday and it is believed that City paid around £25 million for his services.

Ade was unveiled to city fans on Saturday, and the player was overwhelmed with the Citizens fans' warm reception.

"It made me feel really welcome and special and I can't wait to play for City's fans and show them what I can do," he told City's official website.

"I have come here to make history for this club and those supporters. It what the chairman and the manager told me that they want too and I can't wait to get started."

The former Monaco man is City's fourth major signing during the off-season, after the big spenders brought in Roque Santa Cruz, Carlos Tevez and Gareth Barry.

"Emmanuel has been one of the top forwards in the Premiership since he arrived from France. We are delighted he agreed to join us," said City manager Mark Hughes.

"Along with the other signings we have made in the last two windows he will greatly enhance our ability to compete with the top sides."

Adebayor signed for Arsenal in January 2006 for a fee of £3 million before he went on to score 62 goals for the Gunners in all competitions.
