David Beckham was about to start a fist fight with a Los Angeles Galaxy fan in the American outfit's 2-2 friendly draw with AC Milan.

The 34-year-old has featured for the Galaxy for the first time since his loan spell at San Siro last season, which apparently enraged the Home Depot Center fans.

After taking numerous insults, former Manchester United and Real Madrid superstar Beckham jumped over the advertising hoardings towards the home side stands and was about to clash with several spectators.

At the same time, one fan left his seat and rushed towards the veteran midfielder with an obvious intention of assaulting him, but the security staff held back both men.

Some of Galaxy supporters held placards that said 'Go Home Fraud' and '23: Repent', and were booing off Beckham every time he touched the ball.

Another sign read: "Hey 23, Here Before You, Here after You, Here Despite You, Make Us Forgive You", while one stated: "Is evil something u are...or something u do?"

Beckham was substituted on 75 minutes after putting in a good performance, and on his way out Galaxy fans produced a mixture of cheers and boos.

After the game, he told Sky Sports News: "Just towards the end of the first half there was a corner and a few of the guys were shouting some really not nice things.

"I just walked over at the whistle and said 'calm down' and tried to call one of them to shake my hand, he just started swearing.

"I tried to shake one of the guy's hands but he didn't want any of it. That's the way it is."

When asked about the boos, the former England skipper said: "It's to be expected. Sometimes it goes beyond it. The majority of the fans have been great."

Beckham announced earlier this year that he preferred staying in Milan to getting back to the US, saying the Serie A is of a better caliber than the Major League Soccer.
