Masri have opened talks with Zamalek's departing defender Amir Azmi to sign him in the close season, the Port Said-based club said on Wednesday.

"We are interested in signing Azmi after he left Zamalek," Masri chairman Ali Faragallah told FilGoal.com.

The towering central defender terminated his contract with the Cairo giants by mutual consent, claiming that he was mistreated by the club's board.

It is the second successive season for the 26-year-old to depart Zamalek after few months of joining them.

Azmi left the club last summer without playing a single match, citing administrative problems.

Masri are reinforcing their squad to improve on their eighth-place league finish last season.

They are in the lookout for a new striker after Mohamed Al-Gabbas left them to join Lierse SK.

Masri said recently they opened talks with the Belgian second-division side, who are owned by Egyptian businessman Maged Sami, to land their striker Islam Shokri.
