The club excelled in their debut season in the Bundesliga last term under Rangnick's guidance.

They topped the table at the midway stage before eventually finishing seventh, prompting Hoffenheim's owner Dietmar Hopp to consider extending his stay.

"I think it should be our aim to extend Ralf Rangnick's contract," Hopp told Rhein-Neckar Zeitung newspaper.

"The coach has an important standing at Hoffenheim. Without him, lots of players would not have come here."
