"This is exactly the type of player we were looking for to have at the club in addition to Grafite and Edin Dzeko," Wolfsburg coach Armin Veh told the club's official website.

"We now have the opportunity to use a two or three-pronged attack."

Wolfsburg boasted the most potent attacking partnership in the Bundesliga last season.

Bosnian striker Dzeko and Brazilian Grafite scored 54 goals between them as Veh led the club to their first ever league title.

Nigerian frontman Martins joined English side Newcastle from Italian champions Inter Milan in the summer of 2006. He scored 35 goals in over 80 games for the Magpies.
