Gamal Hamza's competitive debut for Mainz turned out to be a nightmare after the newly-promoted Bundesliga side lost 2-1 to fourth-division VFB Lubeck in the German Cup.

Niko Bungert's 19th minute strike was cancelled out by Nico Schrum on 56 minutes, and Jacob Sachs won the game for the underdogs in the fifth minute of extra-time.

Egyptian striker Hamza started for Jorn Andersen's team before being substituted in 64th minute by Andre Schurrle.

Elsewhere, Wolfsburg aces Grafite and Edin Dzeko maintained last season's goalscoring heroics by netting one goal apiece in the Wolves' 4-1 drubbing of Wehen Wiesbaden.

Zvjezdan Misimovic grabbed a brace for the Bundesliga champions as well.

Bayer Leverkusen registered a hard-fought 1-0 victory over fourth tier Babelsberg, courtesy of an Erin Derdiyok goal.
