Algerian playmaker Amir Sayoud is hoping Ahli can adopt a strategy that makes room for him along with star Mohamed Abou-Treika.

The 20-year-old, who joined the Egyptian champions in the close season, is tipped for big things but he might find it difficult to play regular first-team football as Abou-Treika, who was linked with a move to Ahli Dubai, stayed put.

"I know that it will be hard for me to break into the first team because I believe Abou-Treika is the best player in Africa,"

"But anyway, I will do my best to prove myself. I also hope to have a chance to play alongside Abou-Treika."

Ahli coach Hossam Al-Badri, who employs a 4-4-2 formation, is likely to field one playmaker in Abou-Treika to support two strikers up front.

However, Sayoud still believes he can forge a potent partnership with the Egyptian international.

"We can both play on the flanks in a system similar to that of Barcelona, where Lionel Messi and Thierry Henry torment opposing defenses," he added.

Ahli were expected to loan out Sayoud to make room for new signing Abdessalam Benjelloun but the Red Devils eventually released the Moroccan international.

Egyptian clubs can only register three foreigners in their local squads.

"I was unhappy when I learned that I would not play for Ahli next season but I wasn't able to do anything regarding that," Sayoud said.

"But thankfully, I've eventually stayed. I'm looking forward to playing for one of the best teams in the region."
