Referee Medhat Abdul-Aziz, a former Gaish player, was at the center of controversy after officiating a match between his former club and Arab Contractors in the league opener.

Contractors fumed at the Egyptian FA refereeing committee after the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

"The committee should take such matters into account when appointing the referees," the team's assistant coach Mohamed Oda said.

"Abdul-Aziz played for Gaish before so he wasn't the suitable referee to take charge of the game.

"We also filed a complaint against him last year following his bad performance in our game against Ahli."

Abdul-Aziz sent off two Contractors players but the Mountain Wolves managed to hold Ahli to a goalless draw in the early stages of last season.
