Newly-appointed coach Thomas Tuchel announced that the Egyptian frontman wasn't named for the game without mentioning a reason for his elimination.

But according to Allgemeine Zeitung, Hamza could be nursing a minor injury.

The former Zamalek man wasn't included in Mainz's last two league games either.

Hamza was better off under the management of Jorn Andersen, who was relieved of his duties only three days before the new season got underway.

Tuchel is said to have some reservations about the 27-year-old.

The German tactician believes that Hamza, who joined Mainz from Zamalek this summer, needs more time to settle down.

He also says Hamza has to improve his fitness, which has always been a concern for the talented hitman.
