The German football federation (DFB) will investigate an incident involving Stuttgart keeper Jens Lehmann and Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic.
The duo was engaged in a row that was not seen by the referee in Saturday's 1-1 Bundesliga draw.
Television replays showed Lehmann while deliberately elbowing Subotic, before the Dortmund defender caught the veteran keeper in the face.
The DFB announced that both players will have to respond to accusations of an unsporting behavior.
