The Cairo giants secured their second win in four games to hand Frenchman Michel, who took over at the club following the sacking of Michel Decastel, a winning start.

Sherif Ashraf's early free-kick was enough to help them overcome Ittihad in an otherwise dull affair at Military Academy Stadium.

"We didn't play well today but I was just concerned with the result," Michel, who returned for a second stint with the White Knights having managed them in 2007, said during the post-match press conference.

"The team will improve its displays in the upcoming period. I also aim to alter the formation."

Zamalek play with a traditional 3-5-2 formation that features a sweeper in Egyptian international Hani Saied, who produced a superb display against Ittihad.

Their arch-rivals Ahli implemented a 4-4-2 strategy this season to become the second Egyptian club to use it after Harras Hodoud.

Zamalek are likely to follow in their footsteps.

"I considered using it against Ittihad but changed my mind. The players will need some time to get used to it but I'm sure its implementation will prove fruitful," Michel added.
