Ghana thrashed England 4-0 in the U-20 World Cup on Tuesday to secure its place in the round of the 16.

Ghana now have six points, splitting the summit of Group D with Uruguay who have also won twice in the competition.

Both teams guaranteed qualification to next round before they clash in the last fixture of the group.

Dominic Adiyiah opened the scoring seven minutes from the interval.

Andre Aywe, son of Ghana great Abedi Pele and younger brother of Zamalek's Rahim, doubled the lead in the 57th minute three minutes before the hour stroke.

Ransford Osei made it three in the 82nd minute with a deflected shot before Adiyiah posted his second goal of the game two minutes from time.

Earlier on the same day, Uruguay registered an easy 3-0 victory over Uzbekistan.

Nicolas Lodeiro broke the deadlock in the 28th minute with a long-range shot that sailed past keeper Sanjar Kuvvatov.

Gulom Urunov of Uzbekistan received his marching orders one minute later because of a harsh tackle on Diego Rodriguez.

Jonathan Urretaviscaya doubled the lead as he converted home a fine cross from Tabare Viudez.

Santiago Garcia put the icing on the cake with the third goal just seven minutes from time.
