Egypt chances to advance in the U-20 World Cup have been increased thanks to Group D results on Tuesday.
Ghana crushed England 4-0 and Uruguay thrashed Uzbekistan 3-0 as the winners bagged their sixth point of the tournament.
The results left both of the losing teams with no points, similar to Nigeria and Tahiti, who compete in Group B.
With England playing Uzbekistan and Nigeria taking on Tahiti next, any of the four teams can't finish the group stage with more than three points.
This means that Egypt, who already have three points from two games, need only one point against Italy on Thursday to guarantee a spot among the best four third-placed teams.
A victory over Italy will send the host country directly to the next round as group winners or runners-up.
