The Serb notched Inter's third goal just before the break when he capitalized on a mis-hit clearance from Amelia to volley the ball in from the halfway line.

"I had a feeling he was getting that clearance wrong and so I moved to the right," Stankovic was quoted as saying by Football Italia.

"I believed in it right to the decisive moment. We shook hands afterwards."

Inter coach Jose Mourinho refused to single out any individuals following the emphatic victory.

"A great game? We won and this is the important thing. We have won three important points and now we're going home," the Portuguese tactician commented.

Title holders Inter, who claimed an impressive victory despite missing strike duo Diego Milito and Samuel Eto'o, lie on top of the table with 19 points from eight games.

Second-placed Sampdoria can go level on points with the Nerazzurri if they beat Lazio on Sunday.
